I am a ski jumper Robert Kranjec. I was born on 16 July 1981 in Ljubljana. I live in Kranj, Ulica Tuga Vidmarja 10.
Some years ago I completed a vocational course, a hairstylist programme, and at present I am completing the secondary school of economics. For next school year my wish is to start studies at one of our universities.
Despite frequent absence so far I have not had any problems with exams. This is also due to the understanding of my teachers and schoolmates and I would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart.
I have been occupied with ski jumps for about fourteen years. I enjoy this sport very much because in addition to good physical condition it also requires good psychical preparation. But one also needs to take into account the technique, coordination and other. A lot of efforts have to be made in order to achieve a good result although on TV this might not be so obvious.
Jumps are also a dangerous sport and I have twice experienced this myself. In March 2001 towards the end of the season 2000/2001 I fell in Planica and in 2004 (in summer) I feel on a ski jump in Courchavel. So far I have had a fracture of a clavicle, a broken rib, dislocated vertebrae, torn ligaments on the thumb and injured elbow. But I continue with ski jumping because all these injuries have to be taken into account.
I have been a member of our national team for almost eight years. First I was a member of the junior team, then the Junior A team, B team and in 2001 by winning the Continental Cup I managed to become a member of A team. That was also one of my goals.
So far the climax of my career was my successful participation at the Olympic Games in 2002 where as a team we won a bronze medal. In the season 2001/2002 we continued with very good results and I made a jump to the third position in Finland. The successful season was completed with ski jumps in Planica 2002, where I managed to set a national record with 222.5 metres. Unfortunately, the individual competition was cancelled due to bad weather conditions.
Last season was not in accordance with my expectations. But I am aware of the fact that each sportsman sooner or later passes through a crisis. During the summer season 2004 things were already much better but I cannot say the same when talking about the beginning of the winter season 2004/2005 that did not begin according to my plans. I hope this crisis is over as soon as possible and I start with good jumps.
