Great Read - translates very well for teenage athletes April 7, 2003 Stephen Morley (Canada) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I couldn't put it down, and it has become a valued resource. I was deeply saddened to hear of Gary's sudden passing. After reading his book, I felt as though I knew him.
Great book; VERY inspirational September 4, 2008 A. Helms (NJ, United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Don't be fooled, this book isn't just for athletes. The author includes dozens of quotations and bits of wisdom from various top performers. The book is divided into quick, readable chapters (each about 4-5 pages long) and can easily be read within a few sittings. I personally read one chapter at a time so I could let the knowledge sink into my head and reflect upon it.
The book contains tons of great advice for anyone that wants to excel to the top of his or her field. Definitely one of my top books of 2008!

This book Mind Gym : An Athlete's Guide to Inner Excellence is an amazing book the breaks down the complexity of sport psychology into easy to understand and implement processes and tips. Every personal trainer, fitness coach and sports psychologist should have a copy. The book is great!

For my preteen, teenager and me May 28, 2010 Susan Anderson 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
"Stinkin' thinkin'." You know just what I'm talking about. For me, it would mean walking onto the tennis court thinking I didn't have a shot to win. Or my sons walking to the pitchers mound thinking "this guy's going to jack me." But for those of you who have quit believing, I have a solution - read a book.
I ordered a couple of books on mental toughness, not for myself because I am, but for the boys to read. One of them is Mind Gym: An Athlete's Guide to Inner Excellence. I had them both read the first four chapters last night, and I won't soon forget their response: "It's the best book I've ever read" - hearty words from a 12 and 13-year old. Sometimes as parents we don't know the right words to impart to our kids, or maybe because we're parents we're just heard less...So I don't know that these books will solve their woes of late on the field, but I do know that they're paying attention to the fact that sports are not just physical tests because until the head is right, the body never will be.

This book is so good. In every way. You won't be able to get past the book jacket without learning something pricelessly valuable. It's reviewers and Alex Rodriguez's introduction, the author's bio. and words...it just is so deep, yet simple. Please read this book if you want to know the true pathway to success in the gym, at the community track, standing in front of your refrigerator, even in a church pew. This is great. Thank You, so much, Good Gary Mack.
